The American architect and designer Warren Platner designed a whole series of furniture in 1962, each made of hundreds of nickel-plated steel rods, which immediately attracted a great deal of attention. The production is extremely complex and tedious, because every bar is welded by hand.
Platner had a long and productive career, but the Platner chair (and the other furniture from the series) is one of his most consistent designs. The line has been continuously produced by Knoll International in the fifty years since its introduction in 1966. Only the Loveseats (the 2-seater sofa from the series) has not been produced since 1970.
Already in 1968 the serial sniffer Peter Falk aka Colombo chills in Platner’s Easy Chair, and a whole lounge with Platner chairs is blown up in a Quantum of Solace.
Our pair is newly upholstered and covered with bright lemon-yellow cotton velvet from Kvadrat. The metal has tarnished and has small spots of rust film.
